Feedstocks

Food and drink residues for biogas

Food factories produce batches that cannot be sold: wrong recipe, damaged packaging, past the date. Many of them are rich in fat, sugar or starch and well suited to a digester.

Streams in this group

  • Off-spec or expired food and drink
  • Dairy residues such as permeate and off-spec dairy products
  • Cocoa shells and other solid residues from food processing
  • Bakery and confectionery residues

What I check

  • Dry matter, fat and organic matter
  • Packaging: whether it needs to be removed first
  • Whether any animal-derived material is involved
  • Legal status and EWC code
  • Regular stream or one-off batch

Good to know

Solid streams are possible, but the receiving plant needs the right intake. I check that before making an introduction.

Other feedstocks I work with

Crude glycerine for biogas

By-product of biodiesel and oleochemicals. Very rich in energy when the glycerol content is reasonable.
